COMPETITION TEAM

REGISTER HERE FOR COMPETITION AUDITION

The Dance Pointe Competition Team is designed for dedicated dancers who are passionate about training, performance, growth, and teamwork. Placement is determined by audition, and dancers will be assigned to one of the following levels:

NOVICE | INTERMEDIATE | ELITE

Competition Team participation requires commitment, professionalism, accountability, and a strong team-first mindset throughout the season.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Competition Team members are expected to maintain consistent weekly training throughout the season.

Requirements include:

  • Minimum of 2 technique classes per week at The Dance Pointe

  • Friday and/or Saturday rehearsals (September–December)

  • One weekday rehearsal (September–April) — schedule determined following team placement

Competition choreography moves at an accelerated pace and requires strong technical understanding, classroom discipline, performance quality, and readiness for a team-based environment.

PREREQUISITES

Dancers must have a minimum of 2 years of prior training and experience in the genre or genres for which they are auditioning.

Competition placement is intended for dancers who are currently enrolled in, or who have taken classes in those genres within the current or immediately prior season at The Dance Pointe.

For example:

  • Dancers auditioning for Jazz must currently take, or have recently taken, Jazz at TDP

  • Dancers auditioning for Hip Hop must currently take, or have recently taken, Hip Hop at TDP

  • Dancers auditioning for Contemporary must currently take, or have recently taken, Contemporary at TDP

CASTING

Dancers must register for each genre they would like to be considered for.

Faculty will determine final placement and casting based on:

  • Technical ability

  • Readiness

  • Work ethic

  • Maturity

  • Performance quality

  • Overall team fit

Acro competition routines and placements are selected strictly at teacher/faculty discretion based upon technical readiness, flexibility, strength, safety, and overall team needs.

COMPETITION COMMITMENT

Team members will represent The Dance Pointe at three regional competitions during the season.

Competition Season: January – March

Attendance at all scheduled competitions is required.

By accepting placement, dancers commit to:

  • ALL rehearsals

  • ALL competitions

  • ALL scheduled team events

  • Holding ALL competition weekends free

Once schedules are published, no exceptions, conflicts, or accommodations will be made.

Due to the collaborative nature of team choreography, exceptions cannot be made for missed rehearsals.

REHEARSALS & CHOREOGRAPHY

Competition choreography is developed through scheduled rehearsals and specialty sessions.

Full commitment to all rehearsals and choreography sessions is required.

PRE-SEASON

Pre-season rehearsals will begin in late August.

Intermediate and Elite dancers are required to attend.

SOLOS, DUETS & TRIOS

Solo, duet, and trio opportunities are by invitation only and based upon:

  • Technical readiness

  • Work ethic

  • Reliability

  • Team attitude

  • Performance quality

  • Teacher recommendation

Dancers cast in all eligible genres may be considered for additional opportunities; however, solos, duets, and trios are never guaranteed and remain strictly at faculty discretion.

4:00 – 5:00 PM | Hip Hop Auditions
5:00 – 6:00 PM | Jazz Auditions
6:00 – 7:00 PM | Contemporary Auditions

IMPORTANT NOTE

Rising freshmen and high school-aged dancers who were members of the 2025/26 Competition Team should attend auditions as assistants and are not required to formally audition.

AUDITION INFO

Who Can Audition

Dancers ages 8+ must have at least two years of experience in the style(s) they are auditioning for, either in the current or immediately prior season.

Format

Auditions will be held in a class-style format.
No choreography preparation is necessary.

What to Wear

  • Tight-fitting athletic wear (sports bra, fitted top, leggings, shorts, etc.)

  • Hip Hop dancers may layer appropriately

  • Bring appropriate footwear for each style being auditioned

Results

Results will be sent via email following auditions.

Please carefully review all Team Requirements listed above prior to auditioning.

Exceptions will NOT be made.
